Happy February everyone!  I can’t believe that we’ve already passed through January.  The kids have settled in nicely since coming back from Christmas break and have been working hard to get through the rash of recent assessments and usual programming.  I have been meeting with various parents regarding concerns I have and still have a couple more to meet with.  The reports will come out in a couple of weeks and I hope that I will have addressed all issues that I am aware of before then so that you aren’t left hanging with questions.

As stated in the school newsletter, our play yard is in an awful state.  It’s either a sheet of ice or a lake of water.  It would be a good idea if you sent an extra pair of pants and socks to school inside a plastic bag so that your child doesn’t have to sit around feeling uncomfortable in wet clothes.  If they have to change, they’ll take their wet clothes home in the plastic bag so that they don’t get lost.

On Tuesday, February 14th, we will be celebrating Valentine’s Day.  The dance-a-thon will be held in the morning.  Pledge envelopes have already gone home (please let me know if you need one).  This is one of the school’s main fundraising activities but regardless of whether or not your child receives pledges, would you please send back the envelope before the 14th.  Thanks.  All students will take part in the dance, regardless of whether or not they collect any pledges, since dance is a part of our curriculum and hey… it’s Valentine’s  Day!

Our class will be having our Valentine’s party in the afternoon.  If you have not already sent in treats for the children throughout the year and would like to donate some for our party, feel free to do so with our thanks!  Check the February calendar for names of the students in our class if your child needs help when making the valentines.

I did not put Star of the Week names on the calendar for this month but will contact the specific students via a letter home to you.  In the meantime, if your child has not yet been chosen, you can have him/her start collecting photos etc. for the when the time comes.

At the end of the month, the grade ones will be going on a half day trip to Tiffen Conservation Centre to study wildlife in the winter.   We have the opportunity to also have a hotdog lunch over a fire ($1.00 a hotdog).  Look for an information letter regarding this in the next couple of weeks.

Have a great month and we’ll talk soon.

Welcome to our new class website!  It’s taken some time but I have now entered the millenium, and am up and running with the website.  I will continue to send home a monthly calendar and newsletter but will try to put them on our home page as well (I’m still in the learning stage on this end).  The class is very busy preparing for their Christmas concert which will take place on Wednesday morning, December 21st at 9:15 a.m.  If you haven’t already, would you please send in your child’s costume so that I can ensure that everyone has one.  If it comes in a bag (which is suggested), I will put his/her name on it for easy identification.  We’re having such fun practising but it gets even more exciting when the costumes start coming in.  Thanks for all your help!
